With just days to go before Wisconsin voters cast their final ballots in a critical state Supreme Court election, early voting numbers are already shattering records—and the nation is paying close attention. This morning on Chicago’s Morning Answer, Dan Proft and Amy Jacobson spoke with Brian Schimming, Chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin, for a preview of the race that could reshape the state’s political future.
As Schimming explained, the outcome of this election will determine whether Wisconsin’s Supreme Court remains under a 4-3 liberal majority or flips back to conservative control—a shift with massive implications for everything from redistricting to election law and parental rights in education.
The numbers tell the story: More than 345,000 early ballots have already been returned—nearly 50% more than at this point in a similarly high-profile court race two years ago. It’s a clear sign of the enthusiasm and urgency on both sides.
Officially a nonpartisan race, the contest has become a national proxy battle. Former President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk have both thrown their support behind Republican-backed candidate Brad Schimel, a former Wisconsin Attorney General. A win by Schimel would give conservatives a majority on the state’s highest court—a crucial development heading into a consequential 2024 election cycle.
Schimming discussed the energy on the ground, the importance of voter turnout, and how the GOP is working to ensure every vote is cast and counted. He also stressed the stakes.
