UPDATE: Early on his show on Friday, March 15 — a week after his initial comments — Steve Cochran offered an apology for saying that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene should be, “taken out and shot in a field.” Listen to his apology below:
I want to make an announcement here. And, you know, sometimes I’ve said stupid things and you could say, well, how could you differentiate, Steve? You say a lot of them, but this one’s important and it’s serious. You know, we live in a time where talk radio hosts routinely shoot their mouths off and make things worse. Well, last week, after the State of the Union address, I made a comment about Marjorie Taylor Greene that I regret.
I regretted it in my head as soon as I said it. And I’m better than that. And you deserve better than that. My personal standard is to be better than the rest and to present to you a way to talk to each other, even when you disagree. And there’s no room for me to say things that I deem are inappropriate for the standards I set for myself.
In this case, I didn’t live up to those standards. So I want to apologize to the Congresswoman. And I’m going to pledge to you once again to try to elevate the conversation every morning that we can agree to disagree. And we can do it like grownups. And we don’t have to call each other names, and we don’t have to advocate for terrible things that we can actually do at this country is supposed to do.
And that’s to figure out how to get along and make the best of it every morning. So that’s my pledge to you. I apologize to the Congresswoman again and to those of you who may have been offended. And we move on. I thank you for listening. We’re back after this.
Cochran made his original remarks a week earlier, on March 8, which can be heard below:
On his morning talk show on WLS-AM 890 in Chicago, host Steve Cochran began his show on Friday morning suggesting that Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene should be shot:
COCHRAN: Lots on the State of the Union after 6:00, and some disturbing things as normal. And Marjorie Taylor Greene should be taken out and shot in a field. What? Did I say that out loud?
DARLAS: She was just out of control. She was unleashed.
COCHRAN: It’s just insane. The whole thing is insane. And by the way, I would say the same thing about Mark Taylor Greene. So any of you want to think and make that about something it’s not, save your breath.
