President Trump on Thursday launched a direct attack against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, firing 59 cruise missiles at a Syrian air base in retaliation for a chemical weapons attack on Tuesday that left more than 80 Syrian civilians dead. U.S. employers added the fewest number of workers in 10 months in March, but a drop in the unemployment rate to a near 10-year low of 4.5 percent pointed to a labor market that continues to tighten. The United States fired 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at Syria overnight in response to what it believes was a chemical weapons attack that killed more than 100 people. At least six people were killed, Syria claimed, but the Pentagon said civilians were not targeted and the strike was aimed at a military airfield in the western province of Homs.
