Michael Madigan announced Sunday he’s come up with a list of demands if there’s to be a deal on the budget. Madigan wants Rauner to sign legislation overhauling how the state doles out money to schools, a bill the governor has vowed to veto. Madigan also wants a bill to regulate rates set by workers’ compensation insurance companies and more oversight on Medicaid report. Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass joined Dan and Amy to talk about the fight in Springfield. He thinks the solution may be to break up the state of Illinois, and he has a plan to do just that:

A 2-liter of pop you’re picking up for the Fourth of July picnic will be a lot more expensive this summer, as Cook County rolls out a new penny-per-ounce tax on a wide variety of sugar- and artificially-sweetened beverages. County lawmakers say they are attempting to raise revenue and also improve public health at the same time. Barb Eastman with Happy Foods joined Dan and Amy to talk about what the tax increase will mean for her small business:

President Trump sat down with Pete Hegseth for an interview on Fox & Friends Weekend. Trump reaction to that big exposé in The Washington Post today on how President Obama and his administration responded to Russian interference in the election.

 

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 7, the Chicago Police Department union, responded to projections estimating the Policemen’s Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago will require a taxpayer bailout to pay for retiree benefits in four years, denying the problem exists.

Dennis Rodman sat for his first interview since returning from his latest trip to North Korea. Rodman was criticized after visiting the rogue nation for a second time as Otto Warmbier lay braindead and dying in U.S. hospital. He and his agent claimed that they played a role in Warmbier being released, despite claims to the contrary from Warmbier’s family.
