HotAir.com managing editor Ed Morrissey joined Amy Jacobson and Jeanne Ives on Chicago’s Morning Answer to discuss disturbing trends within the Democratic Party, local governance failures, and major legal victories on cultural issues. Morrissey highlighted the shocking candidacy of Maureen Galindo in Texas’s 35th Congressional District runoff. Galindo, who advanced to the Democratic nomination runoff after leading the primary, has called for placing “Zionists” in concentration camps and sterilizing them — rhetoric Morrissey described as explicit anti-Semitism thinly veiled as anti-Zionism. The comments remained on her Instagram, reflecting how normalized extreme views have become in parts of the party. He noted the Democratic Socialists of America’s growing influence and the party’s tolerance for figures like Rep. Summer Lee and campus Hamas activists.
The conversation also addressed Rep. Graham Plattner, whose Nazi death’s head tattoo and mockery of wounded troops drew little pushback from party leadership. Morrissey argued the DSA has effectively captured the Democratic Party, skimming it to advance hard-left policies while wearing its traditional branding. He pointed to the flawed “occupier-occupied” worldview that mischaracterizes Israel and fuels radical outcomes.
On the governance front, Morrissey criticized Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’s failure to address homelessness. Despite pledging to end it in her first year, the city claims only a 17% drop in “street homelessness” — a metric Morrissey called suspicious. He highlighted Bass’s absence during devastating wildfires and bureaucratic delays preventing residents from rebuilding. Reality TV star Spencer Pratt, now homeless after losing his home in the fires, is polling competitively at 22% against Bass’s 30%.
Morrissey praised Kentucky voters for ousting Rep. Thomas Massie in the primary, calling Massie’s conspiracy-laden concession speech unhinged and a departure from his earlier Tea Party roots. He contrasted this with Illinois’ own problematic former Tea Party figures. In a major positive development, Morrissey celebrated Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s settlement with Texas Children’s Hospital. The hospital agreed to pay $10 million, permanently halt pediatric gender transition procedures, and establish the nation’s first detransition clinic to help victims. Morrissey predicted that insurance companies refusing malpractice coverage will further curb the practice, comparing it to historical medical scandals like lobotomies. He praised whistleblower Dr. Ethan Haim and detransitioner Chloe Cole for their courage.
Overall, Morrissey painted a picture of a Democratic Party increasingly dominated by radical socialists, marked by incompetence in blue cities and hostility toward traditional values and Jewish allies. While he welcomes the electoral advantages these extremes may create for Republicans, he expressed genuine concern about the direction of the country.
