Lox and Loaded Brings Firearms Training to Jewish Community and Allies

A new firearms club called Lox and Loaded is gaining momentum in the Chicago area and across the country. Founded in the aftermath of the October 7 attacks in Israel, the group offers monthly training sessions for people of Jewish heritage and their allies, aiming to provide a safe and supportive environment for learning firearm safety and self-defense.

Gayle Pearlstein, COO of the group and owner of Lucky Star Tactical, told AM560’s Chicago’s Morning Answer that the club now operates in 15 locations nationwide, including four in the Chicago suburbs. Members in the area train at Maxon in Des Plaines, Northshore Sports Club in Lake Forest, Caliber in Waukegan, and Article 2 in Lombard. Sessions are led by certified instructors and focus on safety, proper handling, and regular practice.

Pearlstein said the club was born out of both concern and a desire to empower. “I wanted to create a positive space where people—whether they’ve never held a firearm or simply want more training—could learn to protect themselves,” she explained. She emphasized that members leave with new skills, confidence, and a sense of community.

Interest in Lox and Loaded has grown quickly. While some in the Jewish community initially questioned the need for such an organization, Pearlstein said that once people attend, they often become strong supporters. The club has already attracted sponsors and partnerships with local businesses, including Suburban Sporting Goods in Melrose Park, which offers members discounts and personalized service.

Pearlstein also addressed broader debates about gun ownership, particularly in communities that have historically supported restrictions. She pointed to rising antisemitism and long police response times as reasons for individuals to take responsibility for their own safety. “You have a constitutional right to defend yourself,” she said, adding that violent encounters often unfold in seconds, leaving little time for outside help to arrive.

The club attracts both men and women, with roughly 70 percent of participants male and 30 percent female, and welcomes people across a wide range of ages. Sessions in Des Plaines are held on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., providing a convenient option for Chicago residents.
