On Friday, President Trump announced that he was pardoning former Sheriff Joe Arpaio on his contempt of court charge. Arpaio has long been an ally of Trump, even before he was a candidate for President, when Trump and Arpaio were investigating President Obama’s birth certificate.
Trump’s pardon for Arpaio negated the findings that Arpaio — a law enforcement officer — violated constitutional rights with his racial-profiling practices. When ordered to stop detaining Latino drivers unless there was reason to suspect they had committed a crime.
