About a week before the presidential election in November, an African-American church in Mississippi was burned and vandalized, with the words “Vote Trump” spray painted on what remained of the building. At the time, many pointed to this as another manifestation of the violence promoted by Donald Trump and his supporters to intimidate minority voters.
Now, almost two months later, authorities have made an arrest in the case. According to WREG-TV in Memphis, “Andrew McClinton of Leland, Mississippi, who is African-American, is charged with first-degree arson of a place of worship.”
That’s right. The arsonist of a black church, who also attempted to make the act look like the work of Trump supporters, is African-American.
