[dropcap]H[/dropcap]eather “Shorty” Burkinshaw-Stanley had worked as a waitress at the Waffle House restaurant on Highway 29 in Newnan, Georgia. She learned late last week that her employment had been terminated a day after an attempted robbery at the restaurant. According to the Newnan Times-Herald, last Thursday, around 2:30am:
Three men ate a meal and then, instead of paying, gave the cashier a note warning everyone in the building would be shot if money in the cash register wasn’t handed over to the trio.
Police said they left after another waitress gave them $200.
At this point, Burkinshaw-Stanley went to her car, retrieved her gun, and fired over the heads of the alleged robbers.
“I didn’t know if they had guns. I didn’t know if they were going to their vehicle to get another one and could come back and try to get to the safe, so my instinct was to go to my car and get the gun,” she said.
The following day, she learned she had been terminated from her job at Waffle House. A corporate spokesperson declined to comment on the decision.
Burkinshaw-Stanley has set-up a GoFundMe page to raise money, as she’s the mother of three kids and her husband is disabled.
