Special counsel Robert Mueller is using a grand jury in Washington, D.C., in connection with his investigation into Russian efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion between Russia and top aides to the Trump campaign.

It’s going to cost a lot more to buy sugary drinks in Cook County. The penny-per-ounce tax went into effect overnight. However, the future of the tax is uncertain after the Illinois Retail Merchants Association on Tuesday appealed a judge’s dismissal of a lawsuit to bar the tax. Tanya Triche Dawood the Vice President and General Counsel for the IRMA joined Dan and Amy to talk about their lawsuit:

The Labor Department released new hiring and unemployment figures on Friday morning. 209,000 jobs were added in July, somewhat above Wall Street economists’ expectations. The unemployment rate was 4.3 percent. June’s jobless rate was 4.4 percent. Fox News Contributor Scott Shellady joined Dan and Amy with analysis of the July numbers:

Democratic Gov. Jim Justice of West Virginia announced his plans to change his political party affiliation and join the GOP at a rally in Huntington with President Donald Trump on Thursday night.

 

On Thursday afternoon, Anthony Scaramucci—the former communications director for the Trump White House who was ousted after a chaotic 10 days on the job—announced on Twitter that he was abruptly cancelling his live online event scheduled for Friday.

 

A sociology instructor at the taxpayer-funded University of Michigan has published an academic journal article exposing America’s preschool classrooms as hotbeds of “heteronormative play” where “traditional fairy tales” persist and “heterosexuality is always assumed, expected, ordinary, and privileged.”

 

On Thursday, The Washington Post printed transcripts from January 27 phone calls made by then-brand-new President Trump to his counterparts in Mexico and Australia. These transcripts are full transcripts, unlike the excerpted portions that appeared earlier this year.
