The Google manifesto caused a media storm over the weekend, after James Damore argued that biological differences between men and women are the cause of the gender gap at Google and the broader tech industry. Damore was fired on Monday — the same day he filed the suit — for “perpetuating gender stereotypes” and violating the company’s code of conduct. Actress Ashley Judd was so outraged by the sexist assault she received at an airport on Saturday that she took to Facebook Live to rant about the experience. According to Judd, the TSA employee said ‘Hey sweetheart,” and complimented her dress.
Chicago’s ban on disposable plastic bags wound up on the trash heap. But the bag tax that replaced it is nudging Chicagoans to kick, or at least curtail, their use of the plastic sacks.
A University of Georgia professor has adopted a “stress reduction policy” that will allow students to select their own grades if they “feel unduly stressed” by the ones they earned. Similarly, students who feel stressed by “group dynamics” are allowed to walk away from their groups without explanation, and will only be graded on “non-group work.”
