House Speaker Paul Ryan joined Dan and Amy with an update on the tax reform bill, and assured them it will be headed to President Trump’s desk before Christmas:

The House and Senate have now each passed different versions of Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Both bills are a big improvement to America’s out-of-date tax code and could boost the economy by almost 3 percent, leading to more jobs and higher wages for working Americans. The Heritage Foundation has a helpful chart explaining the differences.

 

John Conyers has announced Tuesday that he is retiring and has endorsed his son, John Conyers III to run for his seat. Conyers’ lawyer confirmed that the retirement is effective immediately.

 

The U.S. Supreme Court is hearing oral arguments Tuesday in the case of a Colorado “cake artist,” Jack Phillips, accused of engaging in sexual orientation discrimination under the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act when he refused to designed a custom cake celebrating the same-sex marriage of Charlie Craig and David Mullins.

 

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission, which administers College Illinois, is huddling with state lawmakers on how to fill a gap between the dollars in the investment fund backing the program and the family-purchased contracts to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and other state schools in the future. ISAC hopes to determine a course of action during next year’s legislative session.
