Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson announced new measures to combat violence in Chicago, while other city politicians, pastors and residents called for more holistic solutions.

Habersham County’s Mud Creek precinct in northeastern Georgia had 276 registered voters ahead of the state’s primary elections in May. But 670 ballots were cast, according to the Georgia secretary of state’s office, indicating a 243 percent turnout.

 

Stan Mikita, the hockey great who helped the Chicago Blackhawks to the 1961 Stanley Cup title while becoming one of the franchise’s most revered figures, died Tuesday. He was 78.

 

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer acknowledged that he was aware of a 2015 incident of alleged domestic abuse involving a former assistant coach but that he “followed proper reporting protocols and procedures,” and that “any suggestions to the contrary are false.”

 

The Las Vegas Aces forfeited their game last Friday against the Washington Mystics after the players refused to play citing exhaustion. They complained of fatigue stemming from the 26-hour journey it took them to get from Nevada to Washington, D.C.
